Our school offers a range of spaces, tools and resources to support student learning. Whether it’s for study, sport, creativity or technology, our learning environments and resources give students what they need to succeed.
Our school facilities
We offer a range of learning environments. They help students stay engaged, build confidence and enjoy every part of their school day. Our facilities include:
- bright and comfortable classrooms
- a well-stocked library for reading
- spacious playgrounds for fitness and fun
- therapy pool and a spa for student regulation and water safety
- Gym and sensory room for student regulation, fun and relaxation.
Resources and technology
Our school uses modern technology and digital learning tools. Our resources help students learn, create and stay connected. As a NSW public school, we have access to shared programs and tools available to all schools in the state.
Our classrooms
Our classrooms are safe and inclusive learning environments that utilise technology and promote communication opportunities. NJS integrates technology across all learning spaces to enhance engagement and support accessibility for all students in their learning.
Technology and STEM equipment
NJS has a range of technology and STEM activities to engage all learners. We have adaptive technology to increase participation in learning, as well as simple coding robots and toys. Students will have the opportunity to engage with modified equipment such as switches to activate toys, cooking equipment and games.
Therapy gym
NJS has a Therapy Gymnasium that is a multipurpose space for classes to access for sport, PE and to develop their gross motor skills.
Spa therapy
Spa Therapy is utilised by many classes for students to practise their social, gross motor, selfcare/dressing skills and for its sensory and therapeutic benefits.
Hydrotherapy pool
Our Hydrotherapy pool supports therapeutic and recreational activities and has tracking hoist access and ramps so all students are able to access it. It is the most popular activity at the school and provides opportunities for students to build safe water skills, develop their selfcare routines and regulate their sensory needs.
Sensory room
The sensory room is a dedicated calming and therapeutic space for all students to access. It is designed to support emotional regulation and features interactive elements and sensory stimuli.
Playgrounds
NJS is spread over a large space at Hillsborough and has three distinct playgrounds for students to access. Top playground has lots of grassy areas to run around, sensory path activities to engage with and a large climbing structure for those who like to climb! Our Central playground is for our younger students and those who have mobility issues. The space has a big sandpit, dinosaur slide, soft fall covering the ground and it is a sheltered space for all weather occasions. Finally our Ausplay playground is a shady space with a hammock swing and huge trampoline.
Bike riding program
NJS has a number of modified bikes to cater for the wide range of physical needs of our students. The program aims to build core strength, develop coordination, practise gross motor and develop safety awareness skills.
