Volunteering at school

Helping out at school is a great way to get involved in your child’s education as well as get to know the staff and other parents and carers.

Research shows that children benefit when their parents or carers are actively involved in their education and school life.

You can help by:

  • listening to children read in the classroom

  • volunteering on sports days

  • helping supervise excursions

  • getting involved in fundraising activities

  • joining school committees.

Newcastle Junior School is a school that invites others to volunteer for negotiated periods of time in order to gain experience in the area of special education or to "give back" something to their local community.

We have excellent teaching staff willing and able to share many different teaching experiences.

Please note: all volunteers (with the exception of parents in some cases) require a Working With Children Check, for more information about becoming a volunteer and gaining the new Working With Children check.

Volunteers help students in the pool, in class activities, during excursions into the community and with odd jobs around the school.
